Donors are organisations that provide funding or support in kind to help Mpilonhle carry out its mission. Here is a list and brief description on each of our supporters and how they help us bring aid and education to better the lives of those less fortunate. ApexHi has provided support for a number of crucial activities, including the Programme for Adolescent Learner Support (PALS), which provides support to adolescents in schools with social or health problems, including those who are victims of abuse. ApexHi has also supported organizational strengthening including developing a strategic plan that address short, medium and longer-term goals, and strengthening of the Mpilonhle Board. The Discovery Fund has been supporting the Mobile Health Units of Mpilonhle since This supports allows Mpilonhle counselors, nurses, psychologists and social workers to provide care for a range of medical and social problems affecting local youth, including HIV and gender violence. The EU supports Mpilonhle’s efforts to assist the Government of South Africa to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the Integrated School Health Programme. Since 2010 the Independent Development Trust has provided support to Mpilonhle with funds from the Government of South Africa’s Expanded Public Works Programme. These funds have allowed Mpilonhle to employ 85 community members that work in a variety of Mpilonhle activities. These include supporting community gardens, employing community health workers to follow-up with families of learners who have health problems, including tuberculosis, and engaging in income generating activities such as embroidery and beading for the fashion industry. The Old Mutual Foundation has provided funding for Mpilonhle’s computer-based math and science programme since This is a core activity for Mpilonhle, one that it has provided since its inception in 2007 and which has served as a model for the reinvigorated Department of Health school health intervention. The DOH has emphasized expanding services to the most remote portions of the Mpilonhle service area in the far north of the Umkhanyakude District. The DST, in collaboration with the Tirelo Bosha initiative of the South African Government, which fosters innovation in Government services, is supporting a substantial expansion of the computer-based maths and science education programme in SASA has since 2009 supported Mpilonhle’s school-based community garden programme and food parcel distribution to families of needy school children.
